Role and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Contract Director E&M Systems, the Design Manager – Mechanical Systems – will manage and coordinate the development and implementation of the mechanical systems and services required for the proposed Fehmarnbelt Tunnel. Specific responsibilities will include:
· Establishing the owner’s requirements for the development of mechanical
systems and services, including tunnel ventilation, pumped drainage, fire
suppression systems, tunnel doors and ancillary building services in the
context of the E&M systems required for the safe operation and maintenance
of the tunnel
· Ensuring the development, in conjunction with consultants and interfacing
parties of mechanical systems and services design criteria, including the
development of appropriate RAM strategies
· Coordinating and facilitating the work of consultants and contractors
undertaking the design, manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning
of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel mechanical and associated control systems
· Developing technical assurance strategies on behalf of the owner for
mechanical and associated control systems to ensure fitness for purpose
and cost effectiveness through the project design and implementation phases
· Contributing to the development of procurement strategies for mechanical,
electrical and associated control systems and equipment
· Facilitating and managing the development of mechanical systems
interfaces with national authorities, project stakeholders, internal project
design consultants and third parties
· Facilitating and managing the development of plans and procedures for
the testing, commissioning, setting to work and transition into maintenance
of all tunnel mechanical and associated control systems
· Facilitating and managing the development of operating and maintenance
requirements and strategies in conjunction with project stakeholders,
consultants and advisers
· Managing the administration of the mechanical and associated control
system aspects of contract works including programme, cost and quality.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· Degree and/or tertiary level technical qualification in mechanical
engineering or building services technology
· Registered professional engineer or member of a recognised professional
institution, appropriate to mechanical engineering or building services
technology.
Professional Experience
· Working knowledge and experience of the design, procurement,
installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical systems. These
should ideally include: tunnel ventilation, pumped drainage and fire
suppression systems. Experience of mechanical building services would
be an advantage
· Experience should ideally include the management of mechanical
systems and services works on road, rail or other major transport
infrastructure projects, including the planning and implementation of
integrated testing and commissioning schemes
· Knowledge of mechanical system specification and procurement
strategies
· Experience in the development of requirements based on mechanical
systems design
· Familiar with the requirements for mechanical system integration and
interface management, particularly with internal design consultants,
national authorities and stakeholders
· Knowledge of the development of practical control and monitoring
strategies for mechanical and electrical systems and equipment
· Experience of mechanical system project delivery to programme, quality
and budget
· A minimum of ten years post graduate experience in projects ideally
involving the design, installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical
systems, plant control and monitoring systems
· Good verbal communication skills
· The project language is English, hence good oral and written skills are
required
· Knowledge of Danish and German will be an advantage.
